Who's running for office

HAVERHILL — Election officials say they expect voters to go to the polls for a preliminary election in September for City Council and School Committee.

With today's 5 p.m. deadline for filing nomination papers passed, eight candidates filed or School Committee and 21 filed for City Council. The School Committee needed seven candidates for a preliminary election to be held and the City Council needed 19.

The preliminary election will be Sept. 15 and the final election will be early November, said Assistant City Clerk Rick Barber. The city clerk's office has until Aug. 11 to certify the signatures of registered voters on the nomination papers.

Here are the candidates who filed papers with the city clerk's office by today's deadline, according to Barber:
