Donate blood in Danville next week

DANVILLE — This holiday season, the American Red Cross is encouraging people to give something that means something, give blood.

The Red Cross has scheduled community blood drives throughout the state in December, including at the Danville Community Center Friday, Dec. 6, from 12:30 to 6 p.m. The center is at 169 Main St.

Throughout December, all donors will receive a commemorative, long-sleeve T-shirt.

Girls Scouts always need volunteers

Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains offers more than 100 programs for girls; adult membership is $15 a year. Volunteers receive training and learn marketable skills, make new friends, and make a real difference in girls’ lives.

The tree lights up in Windham

WINDHAM — The annual Christmas tree lighting is set for 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Town Common.

The Salem High band will accompany Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will arrive by fire truck at 3 p.m.

There will be photos with Santa, carols by the gazebo, a bonfire and holiday crafts.

Windham Presbyterian Church will host a spaghetti supper.

The Holiday Shopping Extravaganza will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Windham High.

Festival of Trees gala opening tomorrow

HAVERHILL — An opening night gala for the 12th annual “Christmas at the Buttonwoods: A Festival of Trees” is tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m.

Admission to the event is $20 per person and includes buffet food from local restaurants. The evening will include a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and a performance by the Haverhill High School Chorus.
