Brightside to hold Bloomfest Saturday

Haverhill's Brightside Inc. will celebrate Bloomfest this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon by planting 3,500 daffodils in front of the Haverhill Stadium on Lincoln Avenue. Participants will also be cleaning the grounds. Volunteers are needed and members of the public are encouraged to help with this beautification effort. Call 978-809-9695. Haverhill's Brightside Inc. is a public and private nonprofit partnership with the city of Haverhill and serves as an umbrella organization that brings together the city's private and public resources in a collective effort to clean and beautify the city. Funding from grants, sponsorships and donations enable Brightside to provide the resources necessary to accomplish this goal. Brightside's all-volunteer board of directors meets regularly on the first Wednesday of every month in Room 205, City Hall. Meetings are open to the public.

Potted mums going to seniors

The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Suffolk University and local service clubs will celebrate National Make A Difference Day this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon by delivering approximately 850 potted mums to residents in Haverhill's nursing homes, Merrimack Valley Hospital and Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital.

Volunteers (adults and children) are needed and are asked to meet on the top level of the parking deck in downtown Haverhill for mums and assignments. Chamber members and members and supporters of the Haverhill Exchange Club, Haverhill Kiwanis Club, Haverhill Rotary Club, Pentucket Kiwanis Club and the Plaistow Exchange Club as well as members of the community are welcome.

Riverside Bradford Baseball meeting

Campaign fundraiser tomorrow

Sven Amirian will hold a final campaign fundraiser tomorrow from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Evenfall Restaurant Bar and Lounge, 8 Knipe Road, Bradford.

Suggested donation is $25 per person.

Owner Spiro Pappadopoulos and Executive Chef Scott Pelletier will be present complimentary appetizers. There will be a cash bar.

Amirian, a candidate for Haverhill City Council, has been visiting residences over the last few days and handing out complimentary passes to the event.

Parent Academy

The District Parent Council's Parent Academy will kickoff its fourth year with a presentation titled "School Funding: Where does it come from and where does it go?"

The event is Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Nettle Middle School, 150 Boardman St.

All Parent Academy sessions are free and open to parents, guardians and community members.

Baby-sitting and pizza are provided for children 12 and under. Registration is at 5:45 p.m. The program begins at 6 p.m.

A Parent Academy presentation titled "Homework Help" will be held Dec. 2 at Pentucket Lake, followed by "Enrichment Activities" on Jan. 27 at Bradford Elementary School.

The District Parent Council meets with the Superintendent of Schools the first Wednesday of every month to discuss issues related to education.
