HAVERHILL — A cellophane-wrapped gift basket containing $75 worth of lottery tickets was stolen from a Nettle School PTO fundraiser Friday night, police said.
Tricia Manjounes, one of the organizers of the event at the Elks Lodge, 24 Summer St., told police she went to the lodge about 2:30 p.m. Friday to help decorate for the fundraiser that evening.
She told police she left about 3 p.m. to pick up her children, and when she returned prior to the fundraiser, the small gift basket containing $75 in lottery scratch tickets was gone.
The tickets were purchased from a local variety store, she said.
The tickets were to have been part of a silent auction at the event, which included music, dancing and refreshments.
The clipboard used in the bidding for the auction also was taken, she said.
The event got over around midnight, she said.
Manjounes reported the incident at 10:23 a.m. Sunday and told police she delayed reporting it until then because she thought the matter would resolve itself.
Police said they would be contacting the manager of the club to see if there is a video surveillance system.
