U.S. Senate candidate breakfast forum cancelled

Senate candidate forum cancelled

HAVERHILL — The Haverhill Democratic City Committee has cancelled the U.S. Senate Breakfast Forum scheduled for this Sunday because none of the candidates would commit.

Committee chairman Bill Cox said he has been unable to get the invited candidates to commit to attending, or they have declined and advised him that they decided to go in other directions on that day.

"This would have been a great opportunity for the candidates to showcase themselves and to meet in person those dedicated Democrats from throughout the Merrimack Valley who will be voting in the December 8th primary," Cox said in a press release. "While it is disappointing that the candidates are unable to come to Haverhill for this event, the committee urges all of its members and friends to take a close look at the Democratic candidates and make an informed decision on who you think is best to succeed our champion, Ted Kennedy."

The four Democratic candidates vying for the seat held by the late Senator Edward Kennedy are Michael Capuano, 8th District Congressman; Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley; Alan Khazei, CEO and founder of Be The Change Inc., and Stephen Pagliuca, co-owner of the Boston Celtics and a venture capitalist.
