Van stolen, SUV vandalized on weekend

HAVERHILL — Thieves hit the Acre neighborhood over the weekend, stealing a van and slashing tires on an SUV, police said.

The crimes are not necessarily related, however.

A 7th Avenue resident reported the tires of a 2005 Ford Explorer were slashed sometime between 4 p.m. Christmas and 7 p.m. Saturday. The man had borrowed the SUV from a friend, police said.

On Sunday, a woman on 5th Avenue reported her blue 1995 Ford van stolen from outside her home. The theft occurred between 7:30 and 8 p.m. The van bears Massachusetts registration 34NL31. Anyone with information is being asked to call Detective John Spero at 978-373-1212.
