HAVERHILL — A Plaistow, N.H., man allegedly tried to grab the gun from a police officer's holster as he responded to a report of a loud party.
Patrolman Paul Malone was sent to 33 Jackson St. at around 4:30 a.m. to quell a disturbance. A party there had gotten out of control, said police spokesman Sgt. John Arahovites,
When Malone questioned Rosario Nelson, 25, of 5 Barker St., Plaistow, about what was going on, he became verbally abusive and tried to take Malone's gun, Arahovites said. Nelson was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Meanwhile, another person at the party, Elizabeth Bryant, 27, of 8 Griffin St., Salem, N.H., hit a woman in the head with a beer bottle, Arahovites said. Bryant was arrested by Patrolman Joseph Ingham and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
There were many people at the party, including at least one uninvited person and "one thing led to another," Arahovites said.
Nelson and Bryant pleaded not guilty at their arraignments in Haverhill District Court yesterday. Judge Patricia Dowling released both of them on their own recognizance.
Nelson was ordered to appear in court Jan. 13 for a pretrial conference, while Bryant's next court appearance was scheduled for Jan. 12.
