Alleged window breaker ordered held at Middleton

HAVERHILL — A local man charged with breaking the windows of a car and an apartment on Granville Court on Sunday night was ordered held in lieu of $750 cash bail.

Judge Patricia Dowling ordered Jason Scott, 30, of 29 New St., to appear in Haverhill District Court on Feb. 8 for a pretrial conference. Scott pleaded not guilty yesterday to breaking and entering in the nighttime, malicious destruction of property, assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Scott was arrested at 9:30 p.m. by Patrolman Michael Shinners, who was on Hilldale Avenue at that time. According to Sgt. John Arahovites, police spokesman, Shinners heard the breaking of glass.

Shinners followed the sound and that led him to Granville Court, a small street that juts off Hilldale Avenue. Shinners saw Scott breaking the windows of a car with a shovel, Arahovites said.

The officer ordered Scott to stop, but he fled to an apartment on Granville Court, police said, where he had also broken windows. Scott was apprehended inside the apartment, police said.

He was being held at the Middleton jail.
