Annual show dedicated to late Haverhill teacher

WEST NEWBURY — When Pentucket Regional High alumni showcase their talents at the sixth annual AlumNight on Friday, they'll take the stage without one of their biggest fans in the audience.

Val Corradino, a Haverhill teacher who for the past several years organized the event hosted by the non-profit Pentucket Fine and Performing Arts Foundation, died unexpectedly in December — just a month before the annual festival of the arts was scheduled to take place. She was a former Pentucket teacher.

The foundation is dedicating Friday's AlumNight 2010 to Corradino. The event opens with a visual arts exhibit at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria, followed by a variety-style show playfully hosted by Thomas in the auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors, students, and children. The snow date is Saturday.

Event director Cathy Thomas said the best way to honor Corradino is to make sure that AlumNight remains what it has always been — a powerful celebration of music, theater and visual arts, and a way for alumni to thank the community for its continued support of the arts at Pentucket.

"I know I am going to sing and bang those mallets harder than ever so that Val won't have to struggle to hear, but we believe that it would be most respectful to keep AlumNight the way that it's always been — fun, light, spontaneous and a true delight for each audience member," Thomas said. "That's what Val loved about it, and we believe that she would want those aspects of it to remain intact."
