Three people looking for an apartment robbed at gunpoint

HAVERHILL — A woman and two men from Lawrence told police that after looking at an apartment in Haverhill they got into their car to leave when two men approached. One had a gun and demanded their money.

Police said the robbers made off with two smart phones, a purse and a wallet. A search of the area by police failed to turn up any suspects.

The incident was reported at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday when one of the victim’s called 911 to report what had happened.

Deputy Police chief Donald Thompson said the trio had just looked at an apartment on Fifth Avenue. He said they got into their vehicle and were about to drive off when they were approached by two men, one of whom wore a mask and pointed a gun at them. He said the two suspects spoke Spanish to the occupants of the vehicle.

Thompson said one of the victims told the gunman that he didn’t have any money, and was then struck in the face with the gun.

Thompson said the gunman man reached into the car and searched the man’s pockets. Thompson said the robbers took two iPhones, a purse and a wallet from the victims then fled on foot in the direction of Franklin Street. He said one of the victims called 911 to report what had happened.

The man who pointed a gun at the victims was described as a tall, thin man in his 20s who wore a black hoodie and a grey mask.
