Police: Man stalked teen

HAVERHILL — Police say a New Hampshire man faces charges of indecent assault and battery on a 14-year-old boy he stalked at the public library late last month. Police said that at one point the man invited the boy into his car, where he touched him inappropriately.

Police said the man was subsequently identified and arrested on Jan. 10 on a fugitive from justice warrant by detectives in Nashua. He was being held in New Hampshire and had refused to waive extradition until yesterday.

Police said Kevin Gaudette, 54, of 76 Ledge St., Nashua, is expected to be arraigned today in Haverhill District Court on the charge.

According to police, on Dec. 31 about 9:30 a.m., Gaudette was hanging around the teen area of the Haverhill Public Library and had his eyes on a 14-year-old boy, whom he followed around the building. At one point the boy stepped outside the building and the man followed him.

Police said Gaudette told the boy that his name was Kevin and that he was from Nashua. Gaudette invited the boy to join him in his car, and when the boy did, Gaudette touched him inappropriately, police said.

Police said the boy then exited the car and walked back into the library to join his friends, but Gaudette followed.

The boy told police the man stared at him for about 30 minutes before he finally notified library staff of what was going on.

Police said Gaudette became alarmed and left the library.

The boy provided Haverhill Police Detective Meaghan Buckley with a description of the man, including his first name. Buckley contacted detectives in Nashua, who were able to identify Gaudette.

Buckley applied for and was granted a warrant for Gaudette’s arrest, and on Jan. 10 Nashua police arrested him on a fugitive from justice warrant out of Haverhill. Gaudette initially refused to waive extradition, but yesterday he relented and was transported from Nashua to Haverhill, where he was booked at the Haverhill Police Station on the charge.
