HAMPSTEAD, N.H. — Walter Leskiw, who was badly injured in a motorcycle crash late Saturday morning, is listed in good condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Leskiw, 61, of 12 Glastonbury Drive, Sandown, was trying out a new motorcycle when he suffered multiple injuries, police said. He was airlifted to Beth Israel.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. on Route 111 in Hampstead between Colonial Drive and Emerson Avenue. Police said Leskiw was driving a 2010 Can-am Spyder RT motorcycle east on Route 111 when he crossed the double yellow line and collided with two vehicles going in the opposite direction.
"Speed was not a factor," said police Sgt. Rick Chambers. He estimated Leskiw's speed at 30 mph. Chambers said he wasn't sure how much experience Leskiw has had driving motorcycles, but "I know he has a motorcycle license," he said.
The accident remains under investigation, Chambers said.
The first vehicle was a 2004 Volvo SUV driven by Sheila Bernaby, 67, of 9 Kimball Terrace, Danville. The second was a 2007 Mazda operated by Alison D. Grant of 43 Pilgrim Circle, Hampstead.
Bernaby and Grant were not hurt. Police said the motorcycle Leskiw was driving was a demo from daSilva Motorsports, just down the road from where the crash occurred.
The crash came one week after a fatal motorcycle accident on the same road.
Randall Stewart, 46, of Windham, was charged with drunken driving after he crashed into a motorcycle on which Marceline Weaver, 49, of Salem, was a passenger. Weaver, who was participating in the Knight Memorial Ride, an annual charity event, was pronounced dead at the scene.
