Selectmen seek to oust board member
DANVILLE — Selectmen will take legal action to remove fellow board member Russell Harding from office, according to Selectmen’s Chairman Shawn O’Neil.
O’Neil said Selectman Russell Harding was told last week the board will file a request soon in Rockingham Superior Court to remove him from office for breach of oath.
O’Neil, who would not comment in detail, said Harding spoke in public about an issue selectmen had discussed in nonpublic session. The chairman said the matter was “indirectly related” to Harding’s court case in which he recently pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assaulting a teenage boy.
Harding received a 60-day suspended jail sentence in Superior Court two weeks ago as part of a plea agreement.
He has declined to comment following his arrest in the assault case in September.
Harding has refused the board’s requests to resign. O’Neil said the board could not take action against Harding because he was not convicted of a felony.
