Baddour endorses O'Connor Ives for Senate
Former state Sen. Steven Baddour last week endorsed Kathleen O'Connor Ives for the 1st Essex state Senate seat he stepped down from in March, O'Connor Ives' campaign announced.
“We need Katy Ives in the state Senate,” Baddour said. “She'll fight for working families in every city and town in the district.”
“Steve Baddour was a strong voice for our district in the state Senate for 10 years and I'm honored to have his support in this race,” O'Connor Ives said.
She also announced endorsements from several Amesbury officials. Mayor Thatcher Kezer, Municipal Council President Anne Ferguson and Municipal Councilor Christian Scorzoni have all endorsed O'Connor Ives in her bid.
“Knowing her past experience working at a regional planning agency and on the City Council, I'm confident she will be a great asset to help local government,'' Kezer said.
O'Connor Ives is a three-term city councilor at-large in Newburyport, and has worked with councilors in Amesbury in the past.
“Katy is a dynamic person that has shown great leadership in Newburyport,” Scorzoni said. “As a councilor she's energetic, independent and she'll bring new ideas to the state Senate. I am happy to endorse her candidacy.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Ferguson, who stressed O'Connor Ives' problem-solving abilities.
“I'm happy to support Kathleen because she's a strong candidate who will represent the whole district,” Ferguson said. “We need someone with her perspective and approach to problem solving in the state Senate.”
