HAVERHILL — City Hall in Haverhill is open for business today, but Mayor James Fiorentini said it may close early if the storm worsens before the close of business.
Fiorentini said he anticipates schools being open tomorrow. Tomorrow's trash pickup will take place as scheduled, the mayor said.
Due to concerns for flooding, the city is making free sandbags available to residents. Sandbags can be picked up at the Highway Department on Primrose Street.
The Citizens Center at 10 Welcome St. will open as an emergency shelter tonight on an as-needed basis, the mayor said.
Residents in need of shelter are asked to call the Citizens Center at 978-374-2388, ext. 22. Human Services Director Vincent Ouellette said the Citizens Center will be open until 10 p.m., and if needed will remain open later and will be staffed. You can also call police at 978-373-1212, and police will notify Ouellette, who will open the center.
Residents who want to report downed trees are asked to contact the police non-emergency number at 978-373-1212.
Residents are asked to report power failures to National Grid at 1-800-322-3223.
