Council on Aging plans Senior Health and Fitness Fair


Penacook Place honors employees

Penacook Place Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Hospital has acknowledged its 2013 first-quarter Employees of the Month.

Nika Desir of Haverhill was named the January Employee of the Month. Alysia Spooner, Desir’s supervisor, nominated her for her dedication to the job.

“Nika is a great worker, dependable and willing to do whatever it takes to keep dining (services) operating,” Spooner said.

Desir is a prep cook and dietary aide. She graduated from Haverhill High School in 2003 and has worked at Penacook since the summer of 2001.

Bridget Briand of Haverhill was February’s employee of the month. Briand, the facility’s business manager, was nominated by her supervisor, CFO Charles Carrozza.

“Bridget always goes out of her way to assist the residents and families in their needs,” Carrozza said.

Briand began working at Penacook Place 11 years ago. She is a 1990 graduate of Greater Lowell Technical High School in Tyngsboro.

Joan Torla of Hampstead, N.H., is Penacook’s March Employee of the Month. She was nominated by Karen Tarzia, director of administrative services.

“Joan keeps the checkbook balanced,” Tarzia said, praising Torla’s often unseen work.

A graduate of Peabody High School and Burdett College, Torla has worked at Penacook Place for seven years.

Dolly ’n’ Me Princess Tea planned

Winnekenni Castle will host its annual Dolly ‘n’ Me Princess Tea on June 9 at 1 p.m.

This event is an opportunity for young girls to wear their frilly finest and have a special grown-up day. The event will feature fancy finger food and treats, tea from fancy pots and a visit with the Princess of Winnekenni Castle. A Genuine American Girl Doll will be raffled.

The event also includes photo opportunities and children’s activities. Doll clothes and other favorite items will be available for sale. This event is recommended for children ages 3 and older. With advance online purchase, tickets are $20 per child and $25 per adult. If space is available, tickets at the door will be $25 per child and $30 per adult. Seating will be limited.
