HAVERHIILL — One good turn deserves another.
Inspired by the story of a New York police officer who purchased boots for a homeless man in New York City, a worker at Southwick Clothing in Haverhill went to his bosses with a request to use excess fabric to make blankets for the needy. Several workers donated their time to make the blankets out of the excess material.
On Friday, the company donated 62 blankets to the Haverhill Fire Department and the city’s emergency shelter at the Citizen Center. The fire department blankets are for displaced house fire victims.
Mayor James Fiorentini accepted the donations at the Water Street fire station Thursday.
“Southwick is a Haverhill company that has always stepped to support our city,” the mayor said.
Southwick Clothing, which specializes in making high-end men’s suits, moved from Lawrence to Haverhill’s Computer Drive in 2008.
