Restaurant sales to help cover Santa Parade expenses

With the annual VFW Santa Parade fast approaching on Nov. 24, organizers are working to raise the money needed to pay this year’s parade expenses.

The cost to put this year’s show on the streets of the city of Haverhill is $35,000, with about $21,000 raised to date. In addition to the annual Business and Family Boosters Clubs, and the money blanket collection drive held during the parade, organizers have reached out to Papa Gino’s restaurant in Bradford Square for support.

On Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m., customers who eat in or take out orders from the restaurant will net 20 percent of the total proceeds to this year’s parade. But in order for their spending to count, parade supporters must go on the website www.vfwsantaparade.com and print out the Papa Gino’s Donation form and bring it with them when placing their order.

Candles of Remembrance event Dec. 5

Merrimack Valley Hospice will host its fifth annual “Candles of Remembrance” memorial event Dec. 5 at the Renaissance Golf Club, 377 Kenoza St.

The clubhouse opens at 5 p.m. and the ceremony begins promptly at 6 p.m. An indoor reception including refreshments and a Tribute Book viewing will follow. All are welcome to attend this complimentary event. Participants will gather outdoors for a candle lighting ceremony to celebrate the lives of loved ones lost and impart warmth and hope to their families and friends. Each guest will be given a vigil candle and will be invited to pass the flame and say the name of his or her loved one. A chaplain will lead a brief nondenominational service.

Please RSVP by Nov. 28 by calling 978-552-4924 or emailing lgalimi@homehealthfoundation.org to include your loved one’s name and to indicate whether you will be attending. Those who are unable to attend can reserve a vigil candle that a volunteer will hold during the event to recognize your loved one. Volunteer opportunities are also available by calling 978-552-4927 or by email to lgalimi@homehealthfoundation.org.
