Chili cook-off is set for Saturday

The hours are to

morrow from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

Admission and parking are free. The event features exceptional homemade Greek food and pastries as well as Greek music and dancing. DJ Kosta will perform Friday and Orpheus will perform Saturday at 8 p.m.

A presentation by Zoo Creatures is Saturday at 2 p.m. There will be raffles for cash prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000, and a raffle for a Milan Lucic autographed jersey.

Black Cat Benefit Bash is Oct. 13

Animal Rescue Merrimack Valley (ARMV) will hold its annual Black Cat Benefit Bash Oct. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Nevins Memorial Library, 305 Broadway, Methuen.

This silent auction/fundraiser benefits the area’s homeless animals and will feature psychic readings, live music, performances by the Black Diamonds, a local kids’ band, dance performances, food prepared by local chefs,

a silent auction and raffles.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Proceeds help ARMV purchase food, provide medical care and fund sterilization clinics for the many feral, stray, and foster cats in its care.

ARMV donation boxes are located at the Market Basket in RiversEdge and Westgate plazas in Haverhill, at Market Basket and Shaw’s in Plaistow, N.H., at Market Basket in North Andover and at Stop & Shop in Methuen.

Flu shots to be offered at the Citizens Center

Flu shots for Haverhill residents ages 6 months and older will be offered at the Citizens Center on Mondays in October from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the exception of Columbus Day.
