---- — HAVERHILL — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a masked gunman who they say robbed the CVS store near Westgate Plaza early Sunday morning.
Police released a photo taken by the store’s video surveillance system of the suspect entering the store. In the photo, he is wearing a gray jacket, a striped gray-and-black knitted hat, and a plaid scarf covering his face.
Police said the man got away with about a dozen bottles of prescription medications during the robbery.
Police Deputy Chief Donald Thompson said the man entered the CVS at 425 Lowell Ave. and walked to the pharmacy at the rear of the store. There, he asked to have a prescription refilled. The man, with the scarf covering his face, then showed a large handgun and demanded the pharmacist hand over several medications, Thompson said.
“The pharmacist complied and the suspect then grabbed the medications and ran out the front door,” Thompson said.
Police were notified of the robbery at 5:21 a.m. The suspect was described as being about 6 feet tall with a medium build and wearing sweat pants, sneakers, blue gloves and the knit cap. Police said the man’s gun was a dark-colored semi-automatic pistol.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Detective Glenn Fogarty at 978-373-1212, ext. 1570. You can also leave a message on the police anonymous tip line by dialing 978-373-1212 and waiting for the prompts.
The robbery was one of several incidents over the weekend in which Haverhill pharmacies were robbed or had many items stolen, police said.
