Undercover drug deal nets dealer trying to look undercover

By Jim Patten , Staff Writer

HAVERHILL - A man looking to sell some crack cocaine tried to make it look like he was undercover, police said, driving a 2006 Toyota Camry dressed up in blue lights and a siren.

Problem was, he made the drug deal with real undercover police officers who arrested him on Arlington Street, Sgt. John Arahovites said.

Jayro Custodio, 23, of 20 Swasey St. was charged with distribution of cocaine, improper use of blue lights and unlawful use of a siren, Arahovites said.

Arahovites said police swarmed in when Custodio sold three bags of crack cocaine to an undercover officer when they met in a prearranged location on Arlington Street, about 11:50 a.m. Thursday.

Police seized $131 cash from Custodio, and the car he was driving, Arahovites said.

Inside the car, police found a scanner radio tuned to police frequencies, a set of scales and other drug paraphernalia, Arahovites said.

He declined further comment, saying the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation.
