Body found off River Street

By Jill Harmacinski , Staff Writer
Eagle-Tribune

HAVERHILL - Foul play is not suspected in the discovery of a homeless man's body behind a River Street business yesterday morning.

Investigators await the autopsy results to determine the cause of death, said Steve O'Connell, spokesman for District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.

Local police had no additional information on the death yesterday other than to say it is not considered suspicious.

Police told the owner of Athens Pizza at 781 River St. that a homeless man's body was found in the area.

"It was a big surprise to me," said Louis Vourtsas, owner of Athens Pizza for 30 years.

Vourtsas said he did not know anything about the deceased man.

"I do feel bad for him," Vourtsas said. "It's very sad."
