Man's identity used to create cable TV bill

By Jim Patten , Staff Writer
Eagle-Tribune

HAVERHILL - A 43-year-old Exeter, N.H., man owes paying a Comcast cable television bill from 1991, but didn't know it until he tried to get Comcast service at his Exeter home, police said.

The victim told police he contacted Comcast to order service, but was told by company officials he owed the company $344 for the months of March through July 1991.

The victim told police he was stunned at the news because he had never ordered service from Comcast before.

Comcast officials told the victim the problem was caused by someone using his name and Social Security number and giving the address of an apartment on Hilldale Avenue in Haverhill. The victim told company officials and police he had never lived in Haverhill.

The incident was reported to police at 4:53 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
