HAVERHILL - Three women in their 20s were assaulted in the public parking lot off Wingate Street in downtown early yesterday morning when a man tried to steal their purses, police said.
Vernon Carmack, 39, of 16 Pentucket St., was charged with unarmed robbery, police Deputy Chief Donald Thompson said.
