Haverhill's 42nd annual VFW Santa Parade will be held Sunday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. This year's parade will feature 16 marching bands, dozens of floats and costume characters and clowns. Marching groups such as nonprofit charitable organizations, youth groups, antique cars, fire engines and other unique attractions are invited to be part of the parade.The deadline for entering the parade is Nov. 12. Women, Infants and Children is a nutrition education program that provides nutrition and health education, healthy food and other services free of charge to Massachusetts families who qualify. 978-374-2191.

Northern Essex Elder Transport is recruiting drivers to transport seniors from their homes to out-of-town medical appointments. All of the seniors requesting rides are independent and ambulatory. Local Authors Holiday Gathering and Book Sale will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Haverhill Public Library's Johnson Auditorium, 99 Main St. Event will include lectures and book signings by published local authors who will speak on their books and the creative writing process. Local publishers will also be presenting tips on how to get your book published. Copies of authors' and publishers' books will be available for purchase. Rotary District 7930 is offering a free professional and cultural exchange program including travel, accommodations and meals to four young professionals ages 25 to 40 to travel to Hyderabad, India, Jan. 20 to Feb. 20, 2007. All travel and accommodations are provided by Rotary. Team members will make vocational contacts and visit sites of cultural and historic significance in Hyderabad's booming technology center. Hill View Montessori Charter Public School in Haverhill will hold parent information sessions for the 2007-2008 school year. All interested parents/caregivers with children entering kindergarten through grade six are welcome and encouraged to attend. A tour of the school will be given at the end of each session. In order to place a child's name on the enrollment list, at least one parent or caregiver is requested to attend and sign-in at a 90-minute information session. Parent Information Sessions will be held at the school, 551 Washington St., on the following days and times: Nov. 4 at 9 a.m.; Nov. 14, Dec. 11, 19 and Jan. 16 and 24 at 6:30 p.m. The deadline for submitting enrollment packets is Feb. 1, 2007. Haverhill Boys Club is accepting registrations for its pee-wee floor hockey, minor league basketball and major league basketball programs.

Pee-wee floor hockey is for boys ages 6 to 9. An instructional clinic will be held Nov. 3 from 6 to 7 p.m. All games will be played Fridays at 6 p.m. The 10-week seasons begin Nov. 17.

Minor league basketball is open to boys in grades four to six. An instructional clinic will be held Nov. 4 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Rating day is Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. All players must attend. Games will be played on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. The 10-week season starts Nov. 29.

Major league basketball is for boys in grades seven and eight. An instructional clinic will be held Nov. 4 from noon to 1 p.m. Rating days is Nov. 18 at 10:30 a.m. All players must attend. Games will be played Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. The 10-week season starts Nov. 25.

Tree and wreath registration forms are now available for the 5th annual Christmas at Buttonwoods: A Festival of Trees. Forms are available at Buttonwoods, 240 Water St. in Haverhill, Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wreaths may be dropped off Tuesday, Nov. 14, through Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tree set-up is Nov. 18 and Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last day for tree/wreath drop off and set up is Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will be open Nov. 24 through Dec. 10 and will showcase interpretations of holiday decorations and activities for all ages. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students (children ages 6 and under admitted free). All donated trees and wreaths will be raffled off on the last day of the event to benefit the museum.

Opening night champagne gala will be Friday, Nov. 24, from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and include a first look at the trees and wreaths, appetizers and beverages. Senior Day will be Friday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will be $3 for seniors. Kid's Day will be Saturday, Dec. 2, and features hearth cooking in the museum's John Ward House and ornament crafts. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

A coat drive to benefit The Home for Little Wanderers will be hosted by the Merrimack Valley Saturn dealers through Dec. 1. There is a particular need for jackets for teenagers with sizes ranging from adult medium to extra large. For every coat donation, Saturn will provide a free multi-point safety inspection and written report. Girls Inc. of Greater Haverhill is accepting registrations for the second session of its after-school program. Located at 7 William St., it is the only after-school program that is just for girls ages 6 to 12. The center is open for care directly after school until 5:30 p.m. Transportation from school to Girls Inc. is provided. Activities include cooking classes, art classes and an introduction to karate. The Bradford College faculty and alumni art exhibit and silent auction will be held at the Buttonwoods Museum, 240 Water St., with the Haverhill Historical Society through Nov. 12. Silent Auction of all artwork will be held throughout the event and winners will be notified the week of Nov. 13. The exhibit encompasses more than 70 pieces collected from local artists and former faculty and students of Bradford College. The Women of Northern Essex Community College will hold its annual tea featuring the fashions of an area boutique and furrier Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 12:30 p.m. in the Technology Center on the Haverhill campus. Irresistibles Contemporary Sportswear and Dino International Furs, both with locations in Andover, will present the latest in fall and winter fashions. Tickets are $25 per person and all are welcome. The Council on Aging is offering gentle wellness yoga classes for restoring and rejuvenating the mind, body and spirit. Operation ABLE (Ability Based on Long Experience) of Greater Boston is accepting applications from low-income persons 55 and older to participate in the Senior Community Service Employment Program. Essex County residents are eligible to apply. Funded by the Department of Labor, the program offers trainee workers a chance to update their work experience, develop new skills and gain greater self-confidence by working 20 hours per week at a training site.
