Haverhill man, 21, dies of gunshot wound

HAVERHILL — A 21-year-old Haverhill man has died after he was shot at a house party early this morning.

The death of Luis Rodriguez, 21, with a last known address of 7 Baldwin St., is being investigated as a homicide, according to Deputy police Chief Donald Thompson.

Haverhill police received a call from Lawrence police at 4:45 a.m. today, Thompson said, reporting that a man had been brought into Lawrence General Hospital with a gunshot wound, and that the person had been shot at a house party in the upper Washington Street area of Haverhill.

The man — Rodriguez — had surgery at Lawrence General Hospital, and was then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he died late this afternoon.

Thompson said Haverhill and state police are continuing to investigate the shooting death. He would not speculate on any suspects, referring all further questions to the Essex County District Attorney's office.
