UPS driver spots fire, averts disaster

KINGSTON — A house received minor damage from a fire yesterday, but it could have been much worse.

Fire Chief Bill Seaman said they received a call from a UPS driver around 2:30 p.m. yesterday. The driver noticed smoke coming from the home at 26 Ball Road.

Firefighters found the fire above a bathroom ceiling and were able to put out the fire within an hour.

“The fire started from a bathroom exhaust fan and extended up to the attic,” Seaman said. “We made entry to the fire through the ceiling in the bathroom.”

Seaman said no one was home at the time except two dogs, which made it safely out of the house.

“The real kudos go to the UPS driver for spotting it,” he said. “Otherwise, the fire would have progressed much more and we would have had a much different situation.”

Seaman said Kingston, Exeter, Hampstead, Danville, East Kingston, Brentwood and Fremont firefighters all responded to the scene.
