Plaistow police probe manhole cover thefts near Haverhill line

PLAISTOW — Police detectives are investigating the theft of six manhole covers reportedly taken some time Tuesday night or early yesterday from a construction site on Hillcrest Avenue near the Haverhill city line.

The thefts occurred at a new housing development and detectives have received a possible lead on a suspect’s vehicle spotted in the area, according to Plaistow Deputy police Chief Kathleen A. Jones.

If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area overnight Tuesday, police are requesting them to call the police station 603-382-1200.

“Our detectives will reach out to other departments to see if there is any intelligence of this kind of theft in the area and beyond,” Jones said.

“We have not had any other reported thefts of manhole covers,” she said.
