Police catch man with drugs despite flee attempt

METHUEN — Police arrested a local man on gun and drug charges last night.

David A. Fulcar, 23, of 91 Broadway, Apt. 12, Methuen, was arrested around 5:45 p.m. at Broadway and Annis Street and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and resisting arrest.

The Methuen Police Drug unit, working with a deputy from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, learned that Fulcar might be carrying an illegal weapon. When they went to speak with him, however, he attempted to flee.

They caught him and wrestled him to the ground, at which point they found the gun, a Taurus .357 Magnum revolver with a snub-nose barrel, according Lt. Kevin Martin. Police also found drugs and ammunition.

“It was a struggle to get him handcuffed,” Martin said, noting however that no weapon such as a Taser or pepper spray was used to subdue him.
