Police: Backyard drug dealer busted while on GPS

LAWRENCE — A Lawrence man confined to his house wearing an electronic ankle bracelet, was busted at his residence yesterday for continuing to deal heroin and crack cocaine from his backyard, police said.

James Glover, 53, 198 Water St., was arrested after the city’s Street Narcotic Enforcement Unit, along with a SWAT team, executed a search warrant on the home at 7:10 a.m. He was charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Police Chief John Romero said Glover was on federal probation on charges of selling drugs and was being confined to his home on a GPS bracelet. He was ordered not to leave his home, unless there was a scheduled meeting with probation officers, he said.

“It appears he wasn’t going to let a bracelet get in the way of his dealings,” Romero said.

Glover cooperated during the search showing police where the drugs were hidden. Three twists of heroin and two twists of crack cocaine were recovered in an electric outlet box in the back of the home, according to the report.

He then took police in the backyard and began digging in the sand, the report said. Police recovered a pill bottle with 12 twists of heroin and seven twists of crack cocaine inside.

In all, approximately 10.9 grams of heroin and 6.7 grams of crack cocaine were recovered.

Police seized $4,580 from a safe inside the home.

Romero said there have been over 600 arrests made by the Street Narcotic Enforcement Unit since April.

He said police are targeting drug dealers through out the entire city because drugs fuel most of its crime.

“If we can reduce drugs, we can reduce crime across the board,” Romero said.
