HAVERHILL — A fisherman was rescued by firefighters this morning after falling out of his pram and into the chilly waters of Round Pond.

The man, whose name was not immediately available. was about 100 yards offshore when witnesses said he seemed to lose balance and fall out of the boat at around 7:50 a.m.

He was clinging to the boat for a while, then got separated from the 8-foot, unmotorized craft, and at one point even went under water, witnesses said.

Someone who lives on the edge of the pond called 911.

Firefighters were able to quickly launch the department's rescue boat.

They reached the man and hauled him to safety.

He was taken to Merrimack Valley Hospital for treatment.
