Reams won't seek another term as county attorney

Suspended Rockingham County Attorney Jim Reams announced today he will not seek re-election.

He does, however, intend to serve out his term, which expires this year.

Reams has been suspended since November while the Attorney General's Office investigates office mismanagement and accusations of sexual harassment by female employees in his office.

Last week, when Salem police prosecutor Jason Grosky, an Atkinson resident, announced his intent to run for the post, Reams said he would seek re-election.

"I do not want my current legal proceedings to overshadow the need for a healthy debate on the future leadership of the Rockingham County’s office, which would be unavoidable if I ran for re-election," Reams said yesterday in a prepared statement.
