Gun toting duo robs woman of $2

By Jill Harmacinski

---- — LAWRENCE — A Haverhill woman was robbed of $2 at gunpoint on Garden Street Thursday night.

It occurred after the 41-year-old woman left her job at a Common Street restaurant at 9:45 p.m. and was walking west in the 100 block of Garden Street. Her destination was the Masonic Temple, where she planned to meet a relative, according to a police report.

The woman told police she was approached from behind by two men. The man in front pointed a long barreled revolver at her and demanded her money and phone, according to police.

The victim handed over her phone and $2 cash. But the gunmen checked out her phone and threw it back at her.

“Apparently the phone was not worthy enough to steal,” Detective William Colantuoni wrote in his report.

After they robbed her, the two men ran east on Garden Street. Meanwhile, the victim hid between two parked cars until the men were out of view. Then she went to the Masonic Temple and told her cousin’s husband what happened. He called police.

The victim told police the gunman was about 5 feet, 4 inches tall and was wearing a beanie style hat and a ski mask over his face.

The woman said she focused on the gun pointed at her during the attack and couldn’t remember much else, other than the second man involved was taller than the gunman.

Two other armed robberies were reported on Christmas night in the Haverhill and Jackson street area and on Fitz Street. It was unclear yesterday if the trio of armed robberies are related.
