ANDOVER — Police have one man in custody and are searching for two others in connection with a shoplifting incident at The Home Depot in Salem, N.H. earlier this afternoon.
At 4:35 p.m., police received a call from The Home Depot reporting a shoplifting incident at the Salem store. The man reportedly fled in a car.
The car, a gray 2006 Chrysler, was last seen on Route 213, headed toward Interstate 93, according to Massachusetts State Police. Three men fled into the woods after the car was ditched near an apartment complex off River Road in Andover.
State police said the car is registered to a Saugus woman who is not believed to be involved in the incident.
Around 5 p.m., police began a foot chase in the area of Putnam Investments off Shattuck Road. They took one person into custody, but the other two were able to escape into the woods.
Residents in the area of Konjoian's Greenhouses on Chandler Road reported hearing someone in the woods around 5:20 p.m. Three state police dogs were called in to help search the area, and Andover police were using an ATV unit to patrol an area along the power lines. As of 7 p.m., the search was ongoing.
