'Fugitive of the Week' turns himself in

A man wanted for burglary in Hampstead, Londonderry and Derry turned himself in yesterday after being listed on the U.S. Marshals Service website.

Joshua Fowler, 34, faces seven counts of burglary in the three towns.

Rockingham County Sheriff Mike Downing said Fowler told police he was homeless when asked for his address. When he was indicted two years ago, his address was listed as Sandown.

Fowler surrendered after he was featured as New Hampshire’s “Fugitive of the Week” on the Marshals Service website.

“I think he felt the pressure of us closing in on him and felt the need to turn himself in.” Deputy U.S. Marshal Jeffrey White Jr. said.

White said the Marshals Service featured Fowler on website at the request of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department.

Fowler’s mugshot on the website is now stamped with the legend “SURRENDERED” in red letters.

The burglaries took place in 2009 and 2010, but Fowler wasn’t indicted on the charges until 2011.

The first of the break-ins occurred at a home on Pheasant Lane in Hampstead in October 2009, according to the indictments.

Fowler then broke into homes on Autumn Lane in Londonderry and Sarah’s Way in Hampstead in February 2010. Less than a month later, he was charged with burglarizing two residences on Drew and North Shore roads in Derry, then two on Collette Drive and Craine Road in Hampstead.

Rockingham County Sheriff Mike Downing said Fowler is being held on $20,000 cash bail.

Downing said he expects Fowler will also be arraigned on charges from cases in Plaistow and in Massachusetts.
