DERRY — None of the drivers who struck two girls crossing Manchester Road on May 3 — killing one — will face charges, according to police.
Derry police Capt. Vern Thomas said neither George Draper, 63, of Bow nor Anne Bartlett, 58, of Manchester are being charged in connection with the fatal crash. He did not elaborate.
Sophia Christen, 15, of Manchester died and Lauren Gendreau, 13, was injured when they were both struck by the two vehicles — a car and a sport utility vehicle — about 9:10 p.m. They had attended a carnival and were trying to cross the street near Ocean State Job Lot.
Both girls were taken to Parkland Medical Center. Sophia was later flown to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
Lauren’s mother, Lynn Gendreau, has said the girls were going to Burger King to use the restroom when the accident occurred.
Gendreau said she thought there should have been more police supervision at the busy intersection and didn’t think the drivers should be charged.
