NASHUA, N.H. — A Lawrence man is being held on $1 million bail for allegedly beating his girlfriend's 10-week-old baby boy with an iPad, causing critical injuries.
Enrique Santiago Jr., 20, of 259 Andover St., #1, was arrested late Monday afternoon by Lawrence detectives near his home on a fugitive from justice warrant.
He was arraigned today in Lawrence District Court and waived extradition to Nashua, N.H., where he is now being held on $1 million bail pending arraignment on felony assault charges there Thursday.
Santiago is accused of swinging a pillow case, which contained an iPad tablet, and striking the 10-week-old baby in the face on Dec. 26, according to a Nashua police report.
He is also accused to "grabbing, squeezing, shaking, striking and slamming" the baby boy during the past two months, according to a report released by Nashua Police Lt. Francis Sullivan, of the department's special investigations division.
The baby is being treated at a Boston hospital, where he is listed in stable but critical condition.
"He is expected to survive but will have potentially lasting disabilities," said Sullivan.
