Methuen swears in mayor, other elected officials, tomorrow

METHUEN — Newly elected and reelected city leaders will be sworn in tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Methuen Memorial Music Hall on Broadway and include a bevy of state and federal officials.

Mayor Stephen Zanni will be sworn in for a second term by Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, D-Lowell. City Councilors, including three newcomers, and members of the School Committee, the Methuen Housing Authority, the Greater Lawrence Technical High School board and the Nevins Memorial Library Board of Trustees will be sworn in by City Clerk Tina Touma-Conway.

“It’s nice for them to take time out of their schedules for the Merrimack Valley,” Zanni said.

Tsongas, whom Zanni said has been a friend for years, congratulated Zanni on his reelection.

“Throughout his first term, Mayor Zanni has been a tireless advocate and strong leader for Methuen,” Tsongas said. “He has the confidence of the people and as he begins his second term, will build partnerships and explore creative opportunities to continue the city’s growth. Mayor Zanni’s efforts have resulted in progress for Methuen’s education, businesses, government relations and infrastructure improvements. He is a dedicated public servant and I am honored to be a part of his inauguration ceremony.”

In addition to Tsongas, guests will include U.S. Senator Ed Markey, State Treasurer Steve Grossman, a Democrat who is running for governor, and State Auditor Suzanne Bump.

Methuen Memorial Music Hall is at 192 Broadway. “The Music Hall is breathtaking in its beauty,” Zanni said. “I felt this would be a great opportunity to bring attention to a gem of our city.”

The event is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, with light refreshments being served following the ceremony.
