A police chase late this afternoon began in Lawrence, sped through Methuen, then went along Interstate 495 in Haverhill before ending in Plaistow.
Lawrence police said the chase possibly involved illegal drugs, but no further details were immediately available.
After speeding through Lawrence and Methuen, the car got on I-495, police said. It then exited the highway into Haverhill and sped along Route 125, they said. The car sideswiped a mini-van at the intersection of Rosemont Street and then continued on Route 125 into Plaistow, police said.
Plaistow officers stopped the car in front of Westville Supply company shortly after 5 p.m. and arrested two men, the driver and a passenger. A police dog searched the car, a green Pontiac Grand Prix with New Hampshire plates, but it was unclear whether anything of note was found.
Both of the car's front tires were flat at the scene of the arrests.
The chase began about 4:20 p.m.
A complete report will appear in tomorrow's Eagle-Tribune.
