One serious injury in I-93 crash

ANDOVER — One person was seriously injured early today when a car left the road on I-93 North, crashed into the woods and overturned on its side, one mile south of Dascomb Road.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. State police closed the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway to allow a medical helicopter to land and transport the victim to a Boston hospital.

Wilmington and Andover emergency crews responded to the scene. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries, according to initial reports.

The state police accident reconstruction team remained at the scene for several hours.
