Groveland police seeking bank robbery suspect

GROVELAND — Police are searching for a young man who robbed the TD Bank branch at 280 Main St. at about 2:15 p.m. today.

Police Chief Robert Kirmelewicz said he and two officers initially responded to the report of a bank robbery in progress at 2:13 p.m.

The man, believed to be an 18- to 24-year-old male, walked into the bank lobby wearing a dark hoody, a dark ski mask and faded blue jeans. He was believed to be wearing Timberland work boots. The man is 5-feet, 6-inches to 5-feet, 8-inches tall, with a stocky build.

He approached the teller's counter, held up a black firearm, and demanded money.

The teller gave him an undetermined amount of cash and the man fled on foot, Kirmelewicz said. The suspect had his own bag.

The Amesbury K-9 patrol is assisting, attempting to find a scent to track the man.

"There was no vehicle description so we are assuming he is on foot," the chief said.

He said a bank security camera got a good image of the young man.

Groveland detectives are at the scene now and area departments have been issued a description so that they can also be on the lookout for the suspect.
