Individual in custody after standoff with police

ANDOVER — An individual holed up in his home on Woburn Street after becoming aggressive to case workers is in custody.

Police had closed off a section of Woburn Street as they negotiated with the man who was refusing to come out of his home there after he responded aggressively to case workers.

A staging area had been established at the nearby South Elementary School as police negotiated with the man from outside his home.

The individual was home alone, and nobody else was at risk, according to Andover Police Lt. Edward Guy.

The scene started to unfold at around 3:45 p.m. Friday when case workers arrived at the man's home and he responded aggressively, according to scanner reports.

More information will become available on this as it develops.
