Hampstead balloon crash causes power outages

HAMPSTEAD — A hot-air balloon crash caused major power outages in the area this morning.

Hampstead Police Chief Joseph Beaudoin said the balloon crashed into power lines on Emerson Avenue around 7 a.m. today. No one was injured in the crash.

Public Service of New Hampshire reported 1,491 customers without power in Hampstead, Sandown and Danville due to the crash. Beaudoin said he expected it to take at least an hour to restore power.

Emerson Avenue between East Road and Wash Pond Road was closed as crews work to remove the balloon from the wires.

Beaudoin said it was unclear what caused the balloon to crash.
