Water break slows traffic near Methuen's Five Corners

METHUEN — A water main break on Lowell Street near Hampshire Street has slowed traffic in the area of the Five Corners Intersection.

Traffic on Lowell Street is now reduced to one lane between Hampshire Street and Five Corners, which intersects with Pelham, Osgood and Railroad streets. The area was closed completely to traffic earlier today.

The break occurred at noon near the intersection of Lowell and Pine Streets, between the Patriots Bridge and Central Fire Station.

Methuen Public Works Director Raymond DiFiore said traffic is moving from Hampshire Street onto Lowell Street but is blocked in the opposite direction. He said the stretch of road will be closed off in both directions after the evening commute.

DiFiore said about 30 homes and businesses have been impacted by the break.
