Fugitive wanted on sex assault charge captured in Haverhill

Police allege he assaulted a girl, 17, in her Weare, N.H., home

HAVERHILL — A Groveland man wanted for attacking a 17-year-old girl in her home in Weare, N.H. on Tuesday was caught and arrested last night by Haverhill police.

Jonathan Maguire, 20, of 13 Pandora Drive, was arrested on Maple Avenue at 6 p.m. on a fugitive from justice warrant. His car had been found earlier on Chadwick Street.near the Greenleaf School.

He is being held in the police department lockup pending a rendition hearing in Haverhill to determine when he will be taken back to New Hampshire for arraignment on assault charges.

A warrant had been issued by Weare police charging Maguire with second-degree assault, simple assault, obstructing the report of a crime, criminal mischief, and attempt to commit sexual assault.

Police say Maguire attacked the 17-year-old at her home on Old Town Road at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday and fled in the victim's 2003 black Jeep Liberty with New Hampshire license plates.

The girl was taken to a local hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Police in Weare said Maguire was armed with a knife and had mental health problems.

Maguire lives in Groveland with his parents.
