Haverhill man wanted as fugitive captured

METHUEN — A Haverhill man was held without bail yesterday following his arrest Thursday in Methuen on outstanding warrants, after which it was discovered he was a fugitive from justice for violating conditions of his parole in Salem, N.H.

David John MacRae, 38, of 29 Bradford Ave., was arraigned in Lawrence District Court yesterday afternoon and ordered held at Middleton Jail without bail.

According to court documents, MacRae was arrested at 248 Broadway in Methuen at 11:30 a.m. Thursday by officer Matthew Bistany, who knew the man was wanted on outstanding warrants, including five counts of forgery, three counts of uttering a forged instrument, three counts of larceny by check over $250 and possession of a counterfeit check.

As he was being booked in Methuen, it was learned that MacRae also had an active warrant out of New Hampshire for a parole violation, according to court documents.

According to a “Wanted” notice issued by the U.S. Marshals office, MacRae had originally been convicted and sentenced for larceny in New Hampshire.

According to his probation officer, he was supposed to be living at 59 Kelly Road in Salem, N.H., but his whereabouts were unknown as of Jan. 11, 2013, according to court documents.

MacRae was listed on the poster as having “violent tendencies” and considered “armed and dangerous.”

MacRae also has outstanding warrants in other communities, including North Andover, where police issued a summons for MacRae charging him with two counts of larceny over $250, two counts of forgery and two counts of uttering a false check. North Andover police received a call from the Market Basket at 350 Winthrop Ave. at 10:14 a.m. Thursday about fraudulent checks. He gave North Andover police an address of 7 Mercury Terrace, Haverhill.

He may also have outstanding warrants in Haverhill and other communities for similar charges.
