---- — METHUEN — Police are investigating the third robbery of a TD Bank in the city in the last five weeks after a man held up the branch across from the Loop yesterday evening.

At about 7:45 p.m. yesterday, a man walked into the branch at 91 Pleasant Valley St. Police Detective Lt. Jim Jajuga Jr., said the suspect is a man between 5-feet 8-inches and 6-feet in height with a medium build.

“The subject was wearing a dark jacket, hood pulled up, and appeared to have a white T-shirt with two holes cut out for eyes covering his face,” Jajuga said. “He was wearing black gloves and carrying a small semiautomatic handgun.”

The man walked into the bank with the gun and told the teller to put money in a bag, not say anything and not place exploding ink packs in the bag to mark the bills.

He then left the building and got into a vehicle a witness described as a silver Honda, though Jajuga said the vehicle could have been a different make with a similar body style.

The man got away with an undetermined amount of cash, though no one was injured. Methuen police are working with local, state and federal agencies on the robbery.

On Feb. 21, police investigated a robbery at the TD Bank at 547 Broadway near the New Hampshire border. The suspect was a man with a gray hoodie and a T-shirt used as a mask, but with a larger hole cut into it.

“But there is evidence to believe that the two robberies are related and possibly committed by the same suspect,” Jajuga said.

The suspect in that incident left in a white Nissan toward Lawrence. Two others were in the vehicle with him, according to police.

In late January, police said a man with a goatee robbed the TD Bank at 228 Haverhill St. He told the teller he had a weapon, but did not show it. Jajuga said police do not know whether that robbery is related to the recent two, “but we’re still investigating that and looking into any possible linkage between the three.”

Anyone with information about the robbery or the identity of the suspects are urged to call Methuen Police at 978-983-8676, or to leave information at one of the department’s social media sites. Methuen Police Department has a Facebook page, a Twitter account @MPDBlotter, and a blog at methuenpoliceblotter.blogspot.com.

“We want to let the public know we’re utilizing all available resources and working with other agencies in order to arrest and prosecute this offender,” he said.
