---- — A 24-year-old Andover man was savagely beaten with a baseball bat and tire iron early Sunday in New York City's Greenwich Village, the New York Daily News reported.
Kevin McCarron, 24, is "fighting for his life" after being set upon by a "gang of toughs," the newspaper reported.
According to the story, police and witnesses said McCarron and friends were leaving a MacDougal Street pizzeria about 5:15 a.m. Sunday when they got into an argument with another group of men, one of whom may have been sitting on the car McCarron and friends had driven into town.
The attackers went to their own car and grabbed the bat, tire iron and a blackjack from the trunk, then stomped and beat McCarron into unconsciousness.
McCarron was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The Daily News said McCarron suffered a fractured skull. A relative, Patrick McCarron, was also injured but not as seriously.
Yesterday, police arrested one of the suspected attackers, 24-year-old Hatem Farsakh of Brooklyn, on charges of attempted murder and assault.
Part of the attack was videotaped by a woman bystander and posted on the Daily News website.
