Lantigua files campaign reports per AG's suit

LAWRENCE - Mayor William Lantigua has filed long overdue campaign finance reports with the state after being sued by Attorney General Martha Coakley.

The reports detail his campaign raising and spending during the years 2011 and 2012 and were submitted tonight to the state's Office of Campaign and Political Finance. The 2011 report was due Jan. 20, 2012 and he had until midnight tonight to file his reports for 2012.

Coakley filed suit against Lantigua Jan. 9, seeking the $5,000 he owes in fines for not filing the 2011 reports. She was seeking payment of the fines - a bill which has already been sent to collection agency - as well demanding the reports be filed. State officials could not be reached immediately to find out if the mayor has paid the fine.

Coakley's suit names Lantigua and his campaign treasurer Ana Soto as defendants.
