Five Londonderry teens arrested for marijuana

LONDONDERRY – A complaint about suspicious activity resulted in the arrests this week of five standout Londonderry High athletes on drug charges.

They include football quarterback Dylan Cole, baseball captain Jake Welch, soccer captain Thomas Ryan Beedham, all-state lacrosse player Robert Hart and soccer midfielder Cory Baum.

Baum captained the FC Londonderry Bolts youth soccer 2012 State Cup champions.

The athletes excel in the classroom, too, all having attained honor roll status at Londonderry High.

Police received the report shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and responded to a Buckthorn Street neighborhood.

A caller alerted police about a car parked at the end of the street and two males approaching a home, entering and leaving it, then running around the back.

Officers investigated and arrested the five Londonderry teens on drug possession charges.

“The neighbors knew the parents were not home and called police,” Lt. Kevin Cavallaro said.

The teenagers were allegedly smoking marijuana in a walkout area of the home.

“It was a small amount of marijuana for personal use,” Cavallaro said.

Police records said Cole, Hart, Welch and Beedham are 17. Baum is 18.

Cole, Hart and Welch were released on $1,000 personal recognizance. Beedham and Baum were released on $1,500 personal recognizance.

All five are scheduled to appear in 10th Circuit Court in Derry on Feb. 25.
